Danae is an incredibly passionate certified and registered Specialised Birth Doula, Birth Educator & Pregnancy Yoga Teacher
Having studied with the Australian Doula College, Spinning Babies creator Gail Tully and The Yoga Institute, Danae uses her broad knowledge to support women through what she believes is the most important experience of their lives. She is a mother of two young boys which also gives the benefit of understanding her passion from a position of experience.
Her extensive experience teaching yoga and knowledge of the mechanics of the pelvis, allows for a thorough understanding of Spinning Babies and Optimal Maternal Positioning techniques, helping parents understand the importance of foetal positioning prior to and during labour.
Using the ancient wisdom of Yoga meditation practice to support women, Danae believes that the preparation of understanding the mind and breath is what brings women into their power.
Danae presents to 2nd Year Medical Students at the University of New South Wales, as part of an education program bringing more awareness to the importance of the experience of the birthing mother. She is also a member of the teaching faculty delivering the post graduate pre & post-natal yoga training at The Yoga Institute ( including designing pregnancy yoga practice plans, spinning babies techniques, birth and yoga work together, introducing sound into yoga practice and pranayama for birth).
Danae teaches Traditional Breath Centered Yoga. ‘Breath Centered’ means the breath leads, guides and dictates all movement. It is the focus of the practice and is pivotal to working with the mind. Yoga is not just about Asana postures, the true nature of yoga is to bring clarity to the function of your mind and that can only be done with your breath.
Preparing your mind for the experience of labouring and birth is generally not something that can be done in a weekend course. You need to experience it and practice it in order to train your brain to support you during peak performance.
Women supported this way tend to fall into their breath and ‘relaxed state’ much more easily, as they have formed a pattern in their brain that is familiar.
The physical nature of the practice has incredible benefits for your body. Yoga supports your muscles, ligaments and skeletal systems to not only benefit you week by week, but also help your baby to settle into an optimal position for comfort and birth.
Danae teaches women right up until they birth. The practices are made to support the transformation women’s bodies experience. There is then a natural progression into post natal practice to support recovery and motherhood.
The practices incorporate: A 10 minute Birth Education Discussion, a physical practice, specialised meditation, hypnobirthing affirmations in practice, calm birth practice, pranayama (breathing techniques), how to use vocal sound in birth and active birthing preparation and postures.
